Santa Barbara designer, Laura Lynch has devoted years to the lost art of millinery and has discovered ways to join function and fashion in her hat designs for Laura's Lids and hanna rae designs. Inspired by her degree in history and Czechoslovakian heritage, Laura incorporates select techniques and styles from the millinery trade dating back to the first part of the 20th century. Laura's hats have a softness and quality that only comes from the time consuming process of hand blocking felts and straws. This cannot be attained by today's machine blocked products. Laura uses her collection of vintage of hat blocks (circa 1920 to 1940) and personally designed custom blocks, to produce unique styles for a variety of current looks and life styles. Contemporary and romantic trims include vintage fabrics, ribbon and flowers, classic Mother of Pearl buttons, and distinctive seasonal flourishes. Floral trims on most hats are handmade pins, so they can easily be removed to change a look from romantic to simple elegance. Ease of wear is a priority, and Laura's designs always include packable and size adjustable hats-the perfect accessory for vacation or business travel. A custom brim design for the fall season frames the face, but is shallow in back to let the wearer drive a car without removing her hat! Laura enjoys providing attentive customer service. Right from the start, her business began selling to the top 5 Santa Barbara boutiques by working with individual buyer to design custom shapes and styles to complement their particular customers' style. Her creations can be found in finer boutiques around the country and specialty department stores, including Fred Segal, Barney's New York, Anthropologie, Lord and Taylor and Nordstrom.
